13 Years Strong! William & Kate’s Unseen Photo Melts Hearts on

The Prince and Princess of Wales tied the knot 13 years ago today.

Thirteen years ago today, Kate Middleton married Prince William in a fairytale wedding. To mark their anniversary, the Prince and Princess of Wales shared a never-before-seen portrait, taken inside  Buckingham Palace by photographer Millie Pilkington.

“13 years ago today!” read the caption on their social media channels:

Prince William and Kate wed at  Westminster Abbey on April 29, 2011; they met as students at the University of St. Andrews, lived together as roommates, and got engaged in 2010. For her big day, Kate wore the Cartier Halo Tiara and a  dress designed by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen, and William wore his Irish Guards uniform, but later changed into the black Blues and Royals uniform (as seen in the new photograph).Pilkington wrote on Instagram, “Wishing the @princeandprincessofwales the very happiest wedding anniversary. Can’t believe it is 13 years ago almost to the hour, that I took this portrait. So excited and honored that they should wish to share it.”

It’s been a big royal few days for Pilkington: On Friday, King Charles and Queen Camilla shared a new snap taken by her in the gardens of  Buckingham Palace (see above) to mark their 19th wedding anniversary, and to announce King Charles would be returning to public duties amid his cancer treatment.

Not only is Charles currently battling cancer, but Kate, too, announced at the end of March she had been diagnosed with cancer, and is currently undergoing chemotherapy treatment. While the King is set to return to public engagements this week,  Kensington Palace has not set out a timeline for the Princess of Wales’s return to public duties. In her message, Kate said, “My work has always brought me a deep sense of joy and I look forward to being back when I am able, but for now I must focus on making a full recovery.”
